Béla Tarr\'s Sátántangó at MOMA - 15th Anniversary Celebrations
2009-10-22 Sátántangó Anniversary ‘Carte Blanche’
Museum of Modern Art
10/22/2009 – 10/30/2009
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Sátántangó, MoMA screens this landmark film by Béla Tarr, acquired for a retrospective of the acclaimed filmmaker in 2001. This time, MoMA asked Tarr to select some Hungarian films that have inspired his filmmaking and films he co-produced with his Budapest-based production company TT FILMMŰHELY, influential in its support of like-minded artists who make personal, original films. Tarr’s ‘carte blanche’ is a rare chance to appreciate a lesser known segment of Hungarian cinema; the works reflect—but in no way imitate--Tarr’s preoccupation with expanding and refining the language of cinema.
